Fisker hybrid carmaker furloughs hundreds
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Fisker Automotive has furloughed more than 200 employees — all of its remaining staff — for a week as the Orange County carmaker struggles with financial and production problems.
Spokesman Roger Ormisher tells the Orange County Register that employees were off the job for the final week of March. He says about 220 employees will return to work on Monday.
Anaheim-based Fisker makes the $100,000 Karma, a plug-in hybrid sports car. It’s sold about 1,800 of them but stopped production last year after its battery supplier went into bankruptcy protection. Its workforce has shrunk from a peak of about 600.
The company also has faced consumer complaints over electronic and battery problems.
Co-founder Henrik Fisker resigned earlier this month.
