UNDATED (AP) – The first two of the Final Four spots will be decided today in Regional Final play.
The soon-to-be revamped Big East will land one of its schools in the Final Four when Syracuse and Marquette square off in Washington. The Orange are headed for the ACC next season, while Marquette is part of the “Catholic 7″ that will be the core of the new Big East.
The two met on Feb. 25 in Milwaukee when Marquette prevailed 74-71. The Golden Eagles are pursuing their first regional final title since 2003, which is also the last time for Syracuse won one.
The West Regional finale features Ohio State surprising Wichita State. The Buckeyes are riding an 11-game winning streak into the game as they seek a second straight trip to the Final Four and 11th overall. However, it’s taken dramatic last-second shots to win the last two.
The Shockers proved their win over top-seed and top-ranked Gonzaga last week was no fluke and earned the school’s first regional final berth since 1981. Wichita State is seeking its first Final Four appearance since 1965, the only other time.
