Busy day of play in the big leagues
(AP) — Following last night’s opening season win by the Astros over the Rangers, many of the remaining Major League teams see their first action of the 2013 season today. In fact, there are 12 games on the schedule with nine of them taking place this afternoon.
In matinee play, Washington’s Nationals start the new season with a home game against the new-look Miami Marlins. Back on the mound after being shut down near the end of last season is Stephen Strasburg for the Nats, who are favored by many to win the World Series.
One of the games top rivalries has its 2013 renewal today as the Yankees are playing host to the Red Sox. When was the last time these two teams were picked to finish near the bottom of the American League East?
The Mets are home to the Padres, while the Cubs are at Pittsburgh, Milwaukee is home to Colorado, the Angels are in Cincinnati, the Giants and Dodgers resume their long-standing rivalry with a game in L.A., and the White Sox are playing host to Kansas City.
On tap this evening, the Phillies and Braves will mix it up in Atlanta, the A’s are home to the Mariners and Seattle is at Arizona.
