Disturbance at LA’s Men’s Central Jail hurts 4
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles County sheriff’s authorities say a brief disturbance at Men’s Central Jail involving 60 inmates left four injured, but is now under control.
Department spokesman Steve Whitmore says a fight broke out along racial lines around noon Tuesday in a recreation area in Tower One. It’s unclear what races were involved.
The skirmish lasted about a minute before deputies were able to break it up. The four injured inmates suffered cuts and bruises, and were transported to a hospital for treatment.
Whitmore says few details are available as the investigation is in its earliest stages.
Los Angeles County runs the nation’s largest jail system, with facilities housing about 19,000 inmates.
