So much for the old “it’s a long season” from a baseball player. And it IS a long season. 162 games. As of Tuesday, the Dodgers had played 7. Won 4. But with the highest payroll in baseball, that isn’t good enough, first baseman Adrian Gonzales actually came out and admitted when pressed.
Of course…. they only have to look a few miles down the road to see what happened to another team that made a big splash in the off season. And how long it took for panic to set in. The Lakers fired head coach Mike Brown after a 1-and-4 start.
So should Don Mattingly be nervous? The Dodgers’ manager has excelled at getting the most out of teams without the best talent. But having a roster full of superstars is a different matter. Especially with high expectations and an ownership group that has shown they will move and move quick.
The old saying is, “We’re behind you win or lose.”
In L.A., it’s win … or else.
