CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (AP) — Weapons exercises at Southern California’s Camp Pendleton Marine base caused a wildfire in warm, windy conditions that has grown to more than 80 acres.

The base released a statement Thursday saying the blaze was sparked on a day of very high fire danger during live-fire training in the Zulu Impact Area of the base at about 10:30 a.m. Firefighters were still taking it on more than five hours later.

The statement says the training area is surrounded by fire breaks to keep wildfires from spreading.

There have been no damages or injuries, and there was no immediate threat to base buildings or surrounding communities.
