NEW YORK (AP) — A variety of online tools and apps are catering to people who care for friends and relatives who have Alzheimer’s, autism and other illnesses.

Autistic youngsters are learning to communicate using iPads. A new app helps families organize their loved ones medication and make sure they are taking it correctly. Tracking devices and online programs can help a family member pinpoint a wandering relative with Alzheimer’s.

Experts say technology can be a boon to caregivers who are at a patient’s side and to relatives keeping track from a distance. But one warns that not everyone is comfortable with it yet.
