Fire at SoCal farm kills 100,000 chicks
SAN JACINTO, Calif. (AP) — Officials say a fire at a Southern California chicken farm left 100,000 chicks burned to death.
Riverside County fire spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson says firefighters arrived at Moark Farms in San Jacinto before dawn Wednesday to find a huge chicken coop engulfed in flames.
About two dozen firefighters knocked down the blaze about two hours after it was reported, but all 100,000 of the 4-day-old chicks in the flaming coop had died.
They were able to stop It from spreading to a second nearby coop where another 100,000 chicks were housed.
No humans were injured.
