2 LA County deputies save man from fiery apartment
PICO RIVERA, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department says two of its deputies disregarded their own safety to save the life of a 51-year-old man who was unconscious in a burning apartment complex.
A department statement says deputies Michael Calderon and George Madrid responded to the fire in Pico Rivera early Wednesday.
Neighbors told them there was a person inside an apartment filled with thick black smoke.
The deputies entered the apartment, found the unconscious man on the floor and pulled him to safety.
Firefighters arrived and took all three men to a hospital.
The deputies were treated for smoke inhalation and released.
The man, whose name was not released, also suffered smoke inhalation along with burns to his face and body. He’s in serious condition but is expected to survive.
