Today on Business Rockstars, Ken Rutkowski talks with Todd Tucker and Ron Halvas, the co-founders of Illusion Industries, a special effects makeup studio that provides productions the finest in prosthetic makeup, animatronics, puppets, specialty costumes and design. Their work has been featured in a wide variety of films ranging from “Watchmen,” “The Passion of the Christ” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” to more recent productions including “The Smurfs,” “The Iceman,” and “GI Joe: Retaliation.”
Todd Tucker developed an interest in fantasy and horror films at an early age, and it was this passion that brought him to Los Angeles in 1990. He immediately began applying his trade as one of the key artists for a top special effects makeup studio. In 1995, he joined the Screen Actors Guild and soon became respected as one of Hollywood’s top creature actors and puppeteers.
In addition to acting in feature films such as Kull The Conqueror, Big Bad Wolf and The Passion of The Christ, he was a puppeteer on a variety of films including Jingle All The Way, A Simple Wish, Idle Hands, License to Wed and Van Helsing. His versatility allowed him to portray over a dozen characters for the hit Warner Bros show Charmed. He has also performed on the Disney Channel shows, That’s So Raven and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.
In 2001 Todd began producing and directing a number of shorts, commercials and feature trailers. His lists of creations include Darkworld, Wolvy – Twisted at Birth, The Gatekeepers, Reaction and the cult favorite, Moldy’s Madhouse. Todd became a member of the Directors Guild of America in 2007.
Since that time Todd has second unit directed Summit’s horror hit, Trailer Park of Terror, the family comedy Soccer Mom and directed the family friendly film Monster Mutt released worldwide. In 2010, Todd teamed with Ronald L. Halvas to form Illusion Industries Inc. Their collaboration will ensure that Todd Tucker will continue to be a driving force in the entertainment industry.
Ronald L. Halvas graduated from California State University at Los Angeles with an MBA. In addition to his business focus he is also a Certified Public Accountant, certified in the State of California. For the past thirty – eight years Ron has offered his accounting skills and experience to many clients including directors, actors, producers, animators, a studio president and other industry personnel.
Over the years Ron has owned and operated several multi-million dollar corporations. Concurrently for nine years, he co-owned and managed a multi-state general aviation company, which employed over 200 people. He currently is the Chairman, President and majority shareholder of a high-tech company that has had international branches in Canada and Europe that has dealt with foreign countries, cites and international companies. Their domestic headquarters are based here in Los Angeles where they handle projects with the US Government and Military, along with US cities and major companies.
Currently, Ron is CEO of Illusion Industries Inc. and served as an executive producer on “Monster Mutt” and a producer on “Christmas Tails.” In addition to producing films, Mr. Halvas heads up the organizational, business planning, management and financial aspects of Illusion Industries, Inc. and Twisted Productions, Inc. adding stability and direction by setting and focusing on the overall goals of the business group.
