2 LA colleges evacuated after threats are made
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Two colleges in the Los Angeles area have been closed because of unspecified threats involving guns.
Authorities say two calls from cell phones were made to the California Highway Patrol early Thursday.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s spokeswoman Nicole Nishida says a call was made by an unidentified male who said a man with a gun was going to a college campus in the Monterey Park area. As a precaution, East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park was evacuated and classes were canceled for the day.
Santa Monica police Lt. Calisse Lindsey says the CHP also received a cell phone threat involving a weapon at a Santa Monica school.
Santa Monica College and a middle school and elementary school in that city were locked down.
No arrests have been made.
