Boat washes ashore carrying nearly a ton of drugs
MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Border protection officials say two men have been arrested after a boat packed with nearly a ton of drugs washed ashore in Manhattan Beach.
KABC-TV Los Angeles reports officials spotted the panga boat at sea at about 4 a.m. on Saturday, and spotted it on the beach about an hour later.
The two suspects were found hiding in some bushes about 800 yards from where the boat was found.
Authorities say the boat contained about 1,800 pounds of drugs, including marijuana, life vests, water bottles and fuel tanks.
The identities of the two men were not immediately released.
Panga boats are often used for smuggling people or drugs into the United States from Mexico.
