Who doesn’t love the idea of cruising around LA on a network of clearly marked bicycle lanes? Believe it or not it’s Hollywood.
They don’t have anything against peddle-power, just the aesthetics of a big ribbon of green paint that winds through L.A.’s historic core downtown that’s often used as a stand in for New York and other big cities. A whole bunch of Hollywood unions including SAG-AFTRA say the bright green line is too ugly.
They complain that in many cases it “kills the shoot.” They’re now trying to get City Councilman Jose Huizar on their side to try and mitigate the film-”sore” with a softer color as the city grapples with re-painting the 12 block long strip after the original started fading.
Some cycling advocates think the Hollywood groups are being a little heavy-handed over what they see as a safety issue.
