2 ambushed LA detectives have minor wounds
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles police say that two detectives ambushed by a gunman have only minor wounds.
Police say the two worked in an undercover burglary task force. They were returning to the Wilshire Division station and were using a keycard at the front gate when someone standing nearby shot at them at around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.
They returned fire. Cmdr. Andrew Smith says one detective had a minor wound to the back of his head and the other had a hand wound. They were treated at a hospital and returned to the station.
Police have cordoned off a 25-square-block area to hunt for the gunman, who was dressed in black.
Three people have been detained but police are only saying they are persons of interest.
A citywide tactical alert was declared, meaning police officers are being kept on duty past the end of there shifts.
