LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles police say an officer who was shot in the face is out of surgery and the gunman is believed holed up in a Willowbrook home, 12 hours after the confrontation.
Sgt. Albert Gonzalez tells KABC-TV that the officer is in stable condition in intensive care.
He was shot in the face and a probation officer was grazed in the leg as they conducted a search at the house 10 miles south of downtown at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Police say at least five officers traded gunfire with the suspect.
He’s believed to still be in the home as of early Wednesday but Gonzalez says police haven’t been able to contact him.
Dozens of officers have surrounded the house and several neighboring houses remain evacuated.
