It’s been a busy week for the LAPD with two incidents in which officers where shot. But as ugly as police work can get, there still is time to give back to the community with the 4th annual LAPD & LAFD Safe Summer Tip-off Basketball Game and Youth Safety Festival.

This morning on LA’s Morning News, Penny & Phil spoke with LAPD Chief Charlie Beck about the event:

On Saturday, June 29, 2013, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and
the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) will partner with the University
of Southern California (USC) to kick off the summer by hosting the 4th
annual LAPD & LAFD Safe Summer Tip-off Basketball Game and Youth Safety
Festival.  It is anticipated that 5,000 children and their families will
attend this special event which features a spirited basketball game
between police officers from the LAPD and firefighters from the LAFD.
Tipping off the game will be team captains LAPD Chief Charlie Beck and
LAFD Chief Brian Cummings.

The event held at USC’s Galen Center, 3400 S. Figueroa Street, Los
Angeles, will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  In addition,
we’re thrilled to announce that actor, comedian, and star of KTLA’s new
late night talk show, Arsenio Hall, will return as the event’s master of
ceremonies.
