LOS ANGELES (CNS) – A 27-year-old woman who died in an apparent gang shooting that also left a man wounded in the unincorporated Westmont area was identified today by the coroner’s office.
The shooting in the 10900 block of South Hobart Boulevard just south of 109th Place was reported just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, said Deputy Crystal Hernandez of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.
Hawthorne resident Yolanda Major was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Hernandez and the coroner’s office. Major’s body was found in the middle of the street next to a Chrysler 300 with bullet holes in its windows.
The second victim, an unidentified man was taken to a hospital for treatment, Hernandez said. His condition has not been reported.
The shooting may have been gang-related, according to the watch commander at the sheriff’s South Los Angeles Station.
