Water main break prompts evacuations in Laguna Hills
LAGUNA HILLS (CNS) – More than 20 homes were evacuated Saturday after a water main break in Laguna Hills undermined a hillside and caused multiple small sink holes, a county fire official said.
The break was reported at 1:10 p.m. near the 25000 block of Via Lomas and along Clover Hill Lane, said Kris Concepcion of the Orange County Fire Authority.
“It is a mud and debris flow as a result of a water main break that has undermined the hillside,” Concepcion said. “We had to evacuate 21 homes.”
Concepcion said five fourplexes were evacuated at the bottom of the hill, on Via Lomas, and a townhome was evacuate at the top of the hill on Clover Hill Lane. There were 60 people affected in total.
There was no damage to the homes, Concepcion said, and the integrity of the hillside was being evaluated for safety.
