Meatball the bear may become a Rose Parade float
GLENDALE, Calif. (AP) — Meatball, the bear that gained fame and a nickname by snacking on frozen food in a Southern California garage, could be headed for international stardom.
The Glendale City Council is scheduled Tuesday to review a proposed design for the city’s Rose Parade float. The 2014 entry would feature a mechanical Meatball popping up and down from a trashcan.
The float is called “Let’s Be Neighbors” and would include other wildlife, including a skunk and coyote.
The city has appropriated $155,000 and is seeking public donations for the float, which could reach a global TV audience.
Meatball was captured last year and sent back to the Angeles National Forest but he kept returning to the Los Angeles foothill suburb. After the third time, he was shipped to a sanctuary in Alpine.
