INDUSTRY (CNS) – The second in a series of 55-hour weekend closures will affect some or all lanes of the Pomona (60) Freeway in Industry beginning Saturday night, potentially snarling traffic for motorists in the San Gabriel Valley.
Dubbed “Summer Slam” by Caltrans, the closures will affect lanes in both directions between Nogales Street and Fullerton Road.
Caltrans officials noted that more than 250,000 vehicles travel on the affected stretch daily in each direction. They urged people to avoid using the roadway and beware of congestion that will likely spill to area streets.
Beginning at 10 p.m. today, two westbound lanes of the freeway will be closed and remain blocked until 5 a.m. Monday. Various on- and off-ramps in the area will also be closed, along with the northbound ramp from the 57 Freeway to the westbound 605.
The entire westbound side of the freeway will be closed from 1 to 5 a.m. Saturday and Monday.
Other planned closures are:
– from 10 p.m. Aug. 9 to 5 a.m. Aug. 12, three eastbound lanes will be closed; and
– from 10 p.m. Aug. 23 to 5 a.m. Aug. 26, two eastbound lanes will be closed.
Full freeway closures will be in effect on Saturdays between 1 and 5 a.m., and again on Mondays from 1 to 5 a.m., although the closures are subject to weather conditions and could change.
The project involves resurfacing the 60 Freeway between the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway and the Orange (57) Freeway. It is scheduled for completion in late 2014.
