San Diego infant left in car dies; parents arrested
EL CAJON, Calif. (AP) – Authorities have arrested the parents of a four-month-old infant who died after being left inside a car overnight at a San Diego County apartment complex.
El Cajon Police Lt. Frank La Haye said Sunday that 30-year-old Israel Soto and 23-year-old Jessica Quezada are charged with willful cruelty to a child. The mother is also charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Investigators say the couple left the boy in the gray Chevrolet Impala sedan overnight at the Belle Vista Apartments after returning from shopping. A family member called 911 Saturday afternoon to report a baby in distress.
Officers got the boy out of the car and started CPR until paramedics got there. The child died at a hospital.
The couple’s other three children, who are three years old and younger, are in protective custody.
