LA MIRADA (CNS) – Two gunmen in ski masks who tried to rob cash from a closed In-N-Out restaurant in La Mirada this morning instead stole the cell phones of customers and employees when they found the cash registers had already been emptied for the night, authorities said.
The robbery happened around 1:20 a.m. at 14341 Firestone Blvd., said Sgt. Robert Jones of the sheriff’s Norwalk Station.
The suspects knocked on the locked front doors of the eatery and were let in by a customer who was an acquaintance of one of the four employees inside, he said.
Once they gained entry, the gunmen threatened the employees and four customers in the restaurant, demanding money from the cash registers, Jones said, adding that they took everyone’s cell phones instead and fled through a side door.
Some cell phones were located a short distance away, Jones said, adding that the robbery was captured on surveillance video.
