LOS ANGELES (AP) – Southern California’s heat wave is expected to extend through the weekend, and health authorities are urging the public to take precautions.

Los Angeles County’s health officer has declared a heat alert for Thursday and Friday, warning about the potential for dehydration, heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

The National Weather Service says high pressure will continue to bring above-normal temperatures until a cooling trend arrives Monday.

Predicted highs will range from the 80s at the beaches to the 90s across the inner coastal areas and from 100 to 105 in the valleys.

Overnight low temperatures will remain very warm as well.

The chance of thunderstorms is decreasing as humidity decines, but monsoonal flow over the area could bring the storms back by the middle of next week.
