Shooting at LAX Terminal 3
LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Gunfire erupted inside Terminal 3 at Los Angeles International Airport today, leaving as many as three people wounded and a suspect apparently injured and in custody.
The gunfire erupted around 9:30 a.m., and a Transportation Security Administration agent was believed to be among the wounded. The suspect, who may have been armed with a rifle, was shot and taken into custody, police said.
Century Boulevard was closed off, blocking all traffic into LAX, and motorists were advised to avoid the area. Traffic was at a standstill on streets heading toward the airport.
At least three ambulances were at the scene.
Unconfirmed reports from the scene indicated that a man with a rifle opened fire inside the terminal. A witness told KNX radio that people began scrambling to evacuate the terminal after the shots rang out. She said some people were directed out through emergency exits onto the tarmac.
Police were continuing to search the terminal to ensure there were no other suspects or additional victims, according to LAPD Officer Gregory Baek.
CBS2 is reporting that a second suspect has been taken into custody at LAX. All aircraft are also at ground-stop with no takeoffs or landings.
