CA man suspected of double murder, throat slashing
HEMET, Calif. (AP) — Authorities have arrested a Southern California man suspected of killing a woman and 5-year-old girl and slashing the throat of a woman about 1 1/2 miles away.
Riverside County Sheriff’s Capt. Scot Collins said 33-year-old Johnny Lopez was arrested outside a Hemet home late Saturday following a struggle with deputies responding to reports of a blood-stained man.
Collins said the deputies found a 30-year-old woman with a slashed throat and stab wound after they had Lopez in custody. She remained hospitalized Sunday in critical condition.
The dead victims were found about an hour later.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports detectives were trying to determine Lopez’s relationships to the victims and the motive for the crimes.
He was being held without bail for investigation of murder and attempted murder.
