LOS ANGELES (AP) — Communities across Southern California are commemorating Veterans Day with parades, music, wreath-laying ceremonies and other events.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, who is a lieutenant in the Naval Reserve, is grand marshal of Monday’s 10th annual San Fernando Valley Veterans Day Parade.

City News Service says a carnival in Ritchie Valens Park followed the parade.

In Hollywood, Forest Lawn Memorial Park’s 54th annual Veterans Day program includes patriotic music and an aerial performance by the Golden Stars Skydiving Team.

Pasadena’s observance has special emphasis on honoring the nation’s youngest and newest veterans from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. It includes a flyover by a squadron of World War II-era planes.

And in El Monte a ceremony included future veterans: 30 Army and Navy recruits were sworn into service.
