Dave Koz brings holiday cheer to hospitalized kids
Jazz saxophonist Dave Koz visited California Hospital Medical Center today to present Starlight Children’s Foundation with a check for $100,000 that will improve the life and health of kids in 20 cities around the country. The donation will provide for three Starlight Tablets and $500 in Starlight Wish List items to be gifted to 20 hospitals across the country in each of the 20 markets on his “Dave Koz and Friends 2013 Christmas Tour.”
Dave has served as Starlight’s Global Ambassador since 1993, harnessing his worldwide appeal to raise funds and awareness for Starlight’s mission to improve the life and health of kids and families from hospital to home. In addition to donating his musical talents to Starlight’s fundraising events, Dave engages fans on the Dave Koz & Friends At Sea cruise and during concerts to support Starlight programs.
This year the Dave Koz & Friends at Sea 2013 Cruise, held September 22-29, hosted a silent auction that, coupled with cruise-goers’ personal and corporate donations, raised $100,000.
The tools and resources on a Starlight Tablet aid Child Life Specialists in easing patients’ fears and empowering kids to cope with their diagnosis. Starlight Tablets come loaded with Starlight’s educational programming and a direct link to Starbright World, the first-ever online social network for chronically ill teens, and a list of recommended applications.
Starlight Wish Lists are the newest innovation in service of Starlight’s mission. For the first time, hospitals can publish their Wish List on Starlight.org, requesting items that transform the hospital experience for children. Donors can then point, click and ship those items directly to their facility of choice, leveraging the power of Amazon’s fulfillment network.
