PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) — The heir to the Spanish throne and his wife are in Northern California, where they will be promoting Spanish businesses to Silicon Valley investors and visiting technology companies.

Spain’s Embassy says Prince Felipe de Borbon and Princess Letizia will hold an economic workshop at Hewlett Packard in Palo Alto on Thursday morning after having breakfast with technology company representatives.

The couple will later visit Stanford University before attending the launching of a Google Maps project about Spanish discoveries.

The prince and princess are in California on the 300th anniversary of Franciscan monk Junipero Serra’s birth. Serra founded the mission system in California.

They also plan to visit Los Angeles and Florida, which was explored by Spaniard Ponce De Leon in 1513.
