Movie talk show host on a personal mission to feed the hungry
Leo Quinones, affable host of the popular, weekly KFWB radio show The Film Freak Movie Interview, has been on a personal mission for 16 years to raise donations for the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
His annual three-day Film Freak Thanksgiving Food Drive will once again take place in the parking lot at Smart & Final, 11221 W. Pico Blvd. in West Los Angeles, Friday, Nov. 22 through Sunday, Nov. 24. On Friday and Saturday, Leo will be collecting food from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., and on Sunday from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Leo personally oversees the event every year and gathers donations at events leading up to the three-day drive to help ensure that every family in Los Angeles, regardless of circumstances, has a traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the fixings.

To date, he has raised more than 250,000 pounds of food — growing the effort from 7,000 pounds in 1997 to more than 30,000 pounds in 2012. This year Leo has set a goal to collect 50,000 pounds of food (and monetary donations to purchase food).
“This fundraiser has become one of the biggest food drives supporting the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and has become a very personal mission to me,” says Leo. “With recent food program cutbacks by the government, it is more critical than ever that every person who can do so lends a hand. Every donation, big and small, helps!”
Michael Flood, CEO of the L.A. Regional Food Bank adds, ‘Leo is a staunch supporter of our efforts, not only during his annual food drive, but as a volunteer and an advocate of the Food Bank on his radio show. Much like the Food Bank’s founder, Tony Collier – who more than 40 years ago, borrowed a milk truck to gather food for the hungry and ran the program from his garage – one person can make a huge difference. Leo is an example to us all.”
Every week, Leo offers his unique take on movies on The Film Freak Movie Interview talk show, Saturday afternoons at 4 p.m. on KFWB News Talk 980.
