OC wife who had man killed must pay restitution
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — An appeals court says a woman sentenced to life in prison for hiring a hit man to kill her cancer-stricken husband must pay nearly $500,000 in restitution to his estate.
The Orange County Register reports Tuesday that the 4th District Court of Appeal ruled against 62-year-old Sandra Jessee of Placentia, who prosecutors said had her husband killed because his colon cancer treatments were depleting their savings.
Jessee was convicted of murder for the 1998 killing of Jack Jessee, and sentenced to life in prison with no parole.
She was ordered after the trial to pay more than $522,000 in restitution to her husband’s estate.
Jessee challenged the restitution, but the appeals court upheld all but a $29,648 payment to Allstate Insurance, because she was not convicted of insurance fraud.
