LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Amarillo’s first-ever logo didn’t last long.

Days after unveiling it to kick off the city’s 100th anniversary, an official from Emaar Properties wrote to the city saying its new logo looked far too similar to the Dubai company’s trademark design.

Amarillo City Attorney Marcus Norris replied via email requesting that Emaar agree to allow the city to use its logo, saying the two designs only resembled one another. The emails were obtained by the Amarillo Globe-News and posted on its website.

Emaar disagreed. Last week Norris emailed Emaar to say Amarillo had decided to abandon its logo.

Amarillo’s mayor said the Amarillo Globe-News is helping with a new logo. The public will vote for the new logo on the paper’s website, and city officials will make the final decision.
