Small plane crashes in parking lot near airport
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say a small plane has crashed in a parking lot in Los Angeles with two men on board who pulled themselves from the wreckage.
Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey says the single-engine plane struck power lines before crashing into a used car parking lot near Whiteman Airport shortly before 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Humphrey says two men extricated themselves from the heavily-damaged four-seat aircraft and were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
He says the men were conscious and alert but he could not specify their condition.
The airport is a general aviation facility located 20 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
