Holiday DUI arrests up slightly
LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Drunken and drugged driving arrests in a countywide totaled 1,996 as of midnight Sunday, up from 1,913 last year during the same time period.
The crackdown by officers with the Avoid the 100 law enforcement task force started Dec. 13 and runs through New Year’s Day.
The campaign by 100 law enforcement agencies countywide includes checkpoints and “roving DUI saturation patrols.”
In Mission Viejo, a 27-year-old man is facing a drunken driving charge for allegedly crashing into a home about 3:10 a.m. Sunday, smashing through a wall and killing a motorcycle mechanic asleep in his bed. The driver, Kourosh Keshmiri, was driving on a suspended license stemming from a 2010 arrest for driving under the influence, according to Orange County sheriff’s deputies.
