The confetti has been cleaned up, resolutions have been made, and in order to help consumers start the New Year on a positive financial note, CardHub has released its year-end Credit Card Landscape Report as well as its list of the Best Credit Cards for 2014.

“The economic winds finally seem to be blowing our way, and after years of hardship and confusion, the notion that 2014 could be the year we right the ship after the Great Recession is undoubtedly encouraging,” CardHub CEO Odysseas Papadimitriou said.

Here is a brief overview of CardHub’s 2014 Best Credit Card selections, which were chosen from a pool of more than 1,000 card offers due to their unique ability to meet various consumer needs. The cards are listed based on the credit standing needed to qualify as well as their designed use.

Excellent Credit

Best for Balance Transfers: Slate from Chase — 0% on transferred debt for 15 months; 12.99% – 22.99% regular APR; no transfer fee or annual fee

Best for Financing New Purchases: Citi Diamond Preferred — 0% on new purchases for 18 months; 11.99% – 21.99% regular APR; no annual fee

Best Initial Rewards Bonus: Chase Sapphire Preferred — 40,000 bonus points for spending $3,000 in the first three months (redeemable for $500 in travel or $400 cash); no first-year annual fee ($95 thereafter)

Best for Generic Travel Rewards: Barclaycard Arrival — 40,000 bonus miles for spending $1,000 in the first 90 days (redeemable for $400 in travel-related expenses); 2 miles per $1 spent; no first-year annual fee ($89 thereafter)

Best for Gas & Grocery Rewards: Blue Cash Preferred — 6% cash back at supermarkets, 3% at gas stations and department stores, and 1% on everything else; $100 initial bonus for spending $1,000 in the first three months; complimentary Amazon Prime membership; $75 annual fee

Best for Airline Rewards: Frontier Airlines Credit Card — 40,000 bonus miles for spending $500 in the first 90 days (redeemable for 2 round-trip domestic flights); 2 miles/$1 spent with Frontier Airlines and 1 mile/$1 on everything else; $69 annual fee

Best for Hotel Rewards: Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature — 50,000 bonus points after your first purchase and 35,000 more for spending $2,500 in the first 90 days (redeemable for up to 18 free nights); 10 points/$1 at Carlson properties and 5 points/$1 everywhere else; 40,000 bonus points each account anniversary; $75 annual fee

Best for Small Business: Spark Cash for Business — 2% cash back on all purchases, $100 initial bonus for spending $1,000 in the first three months; $50 bonus for opening an employee card; no first-year annual fee ($59 thereafter)

Limited/No Credit

Best for Non-Students: Capital One Platinum Credit Card — Catered to people with limited credit history; no first-year annual fee ($19 thereafter); great for cost-effective credit building

Best Student Rewards: Capital One Journey Student Rewards — 1% cash back on all purchases, plus a 25% rewards bonus when your monthly bill is paid on time; no annual fee

Best Student Financing: BankAmericard for Students — 0% on new purchases for 15 months; 10.99% – 20.99% regular APR; no annual fee

Bad Credit

Best Fully Secured Card: Harley Davidson Secured Credit Card — $300 minimum deposit; credit line equal to deposit amount; no annual fee

Best Partially Secured Card: Capital One Secured MasterCard — Minimum deposit of $49, $99, or $200, depending on credit standing; credit line may exceed deposit amount; $29 annual fee
