LOS ANGELES (AP) — Bobby Shriver, the former mayor of Santa Monica and the nephew of John F. Kennedy, says he will be entering the race for Los Angeles County supervisor.

The Los Angeles Times reports Shriver emailed supporters this week saying he plans to announce his bid soon, citing his record on environmental and homeless issues during his tenure in Santa Monica.

Shriver is seeking to represent a district of 2 million residents stretching from the Pacific Ocean to the San Fernando Valley. The seat is currently held by Zev Yaroslavsky, who is being termed out.

In the email, Shriver asks for $300 donations.

Also running are former state lawmaker Sheila Kuehl, West Hollywood Councilman John Duran and former Malibu Mayor Pamela Conley Ulich.
