Cirque du Soleil opens January 17 in Santa Monica
Cirque du Soleil’s famous blue and yellow big top has been unfurled for a week at the Santa Monica Pier, where performances of the production TOTEM are set to begin on January 17 and run through March 16.
TOTEM, written and directed by Robert Lepage, traces the evolution of the human species and its desire to fly. The cast features 46 acrobats, actors, musicians and singers.
The big top seats more than 2,600 people and is 66 feet high. Putting together the entire site takes eight days and includes the installation of entrance and rehearsal tents, administrative offices and a kitchen.
