Weekend LAPD checkpoints
LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Los Angeles police will conduct a DUI/drivers license checkpoint in the Mid-City area and run saturation DUI patrols in Rampart and Harbor areas tonight searching for impaired or unlicensed drivers.
The sobriety and license checkpoint will run from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday, at the corner of La Cienega Boulevard and Sawyer Street, LAPD Officer Don Inman said.
The patrols will operate from 4 p.m. to midnight in the Rampart area and from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday, in the Harbor area, Inman said.
The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols are a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed or injured in alcohol or drug-related traffic collisions, Inman said.
Research shows that traffic collisions involving impaired drivers can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and active DUI patrols are routinely conducted.
Funding for these operations was provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.
