Search continues for missing mother of 2 young boys
LOS ANGELES (CNS) – A 32-year-old woman was identified today as the mother of two little boys who were found on a busy street in South Los Angeles, looking for food, but police were still trying to find her.
Police said Sidnicka Wilson is the mother of the boys — one aged about 3 and the other about 18 months — who were found by a passerby around 9 a.m. Monday in the 600 block of West Manchester Boulevard.
Wilson remains missing and is being sought by police.
The children may have lived in a nearby apartment in the 600 block of East 85th Street, police said. Lt. Lou Paglialonga described the condition of the apartment as “deplorable” and “unfit for children” but said it was not clear if they actually resided there.
LAPD Capt. Lillian Carranza said detectives have reached out to neighbors, family members and merchants in the area, but they have not been able to find the mother. They have also checked with the coroner and at hospitals and jails.
“We are concerned for her well-being,” Carranza said. “As … you know, there are two sides to every story. We would like to know what happened and what arrangements that she made for the care of the children during her absence.”
The man who found the children, Luis Rodriguez, told NBC4 he was working on his truck when he noticed the older boy riding a tricycle toward the road. Rodriguez said he then spotted the other child nearby.
Rodriguez said when he asked the older boy where they lived, the child pointed to a gate.
According to LAPD, the children are doing well and are in the protective custody of the county Department of Children and Family Services
