LOS ANGELES (CNS) – An international search is on for a new Port of Los Angeles chief, Mayor Eric Garcetti announced today.

The hunt for a new executive director will be conducted by recruitment firm Ralph Andersen & Associates and a committee made up of Harbor Commission President Vilma Martinez and Commission Vice President David Arian, he said.

They plan to seek and vet shipping industry candidates from around the world. The field will be whittled down to a short list that will be submitted to the mayor.

Because the port is a “critical economic driver of our region,” playing a “central role in L.A.’s status as a global city and leading Pacific Rim trade gateway,” the search team will be looking for a “highly experienced and dynamic executive director with a strong track record of success — a true collaborator and visionary who can lead the port and advance our international trade efforts in the years ahead,” Garcetti said.

Martinez said “the port operates in a fiercely competitive global economy and international trade arena,” so are seeking the “uncommon executive who can embrace this dynamic and challenging environment, and help assure our continued position as the leading container port in the U.S.”

Candidates for the job have until April 14 to apply. A job description is going up at geles.html
