Suspect held in wounding of Dana Point man
DANA POINT, Calif. (AP) — A 40-year-old man has been arrested in a shooting that wounded a man in Dana Point and led to a manhunt on the northern San Diego County coast.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department says Julian St. John of Orange was detained by state park rangers at 2:50 a.m. Monday in San Clemente.
He had been the subject of a search since the shooting Sunday of a 56-year-old man, who said St. John stole his SUV.
The vehicle was spotted in the San Clemente area, but after a pursuit south on Interstate 5 to the San Onofre area, the driver abandoned the SUV and fled on foot.
Orange County sheriff’s bloodhounds and air units assisted by the Border Patrol, Marine Corps police and San Diego deputies unsuccessfully searched for five hours.
