Three Southland high schools win Grammy Foundation grants
LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Diamond Bar, Mira Costa and Northwood high schools were among a dozen nationwide awarded grants today by the Grammy Foundation.
Diamond Bar will get $6,000, Mira Costa in Manhattan Beach will get $5,000 and Northwood High School in Irvine will get $2,000 to support music programs.
So far this year, 85 schools have received Grammy Foundation grants totaling about $170,000.
The selection process for Grammy Signature Schools grants starts in August when the foundation solicits information about music programs from more than 20,000 public high schools. Applications are submitted in October, finalists are selected based on recordings of school concerts or other musical programs, and a panel of educators and music professionals choose the winners.
