Crimea’s new AG wins anime fans
Crimea’s newly-appointed attorney general has been turned into an anime star by adoring Japanese fans who are more focused on her looks than politics. 33- year-old Natalia Poklonskaya, has been the unwitting star of fan art since she made her debut on the world stage at a news conference earlier this month as the prosecutor of the new Crimean Republic that Russian just annexed.
In comments under a short video re-posted in Japanese on YouTube of the wide-eyed, blonde prosecutor addressing reporters, fans didn’t mention concerns over Russia’s annexation of the peninsula from Ukraine. Instead, the video, which has garnered more than 640,000 views — elicited comments about Poklonskaya’s appearance. One person called her a “Prosecutie,” while another said, “I wish she could work abroad. I would like a leader like her.”
