Interstate 15 in Hesperia closes after bridge fire
HESPERIA, Calif. (AP) — All three lanes of Interstate 15 in Hesperia have been closed in both directions after wooden supports for a bridge under construction exploded into flames.
The California Highway Patrol’s Carlos Juarez says the bridge at Ranchero Road caught fire at about 1:30 p.m. and Interstate 15 was closed soon after because of falling debris.
Juarez says there are no known injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation. He says firefighters are on scene.
KCAL-TV shows plumes of smoke above blackened sections of the bridge as flames continued burning. A single fire hose appeared to barely reach the flames.
It’s unclear how long it will take to reopen the area north of the Cajon Pass. Interstate 15 is a major freeway that connects Southern California to Las Vegas.
