CASTAIC (CNS) – The search resumed today for a man who disappeared following a boating accident that killed a man in Pyramid Lake.

A Parks Bureau deputy on patrol was flagged down at 11:20 a.m. Sunday by a man on a jet ski who reported seeing something suspicious in the south part of Pyramid Lake near Chumash Island, said Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.

Parks Bureau deputies then found the bow of a boat sticking up out of the water, Navarro-Suarez said.

“A short distance away, deputies found a male adult beneath the water. Deputies pulled him from the water and immediately administered CPR. However, the deputies were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead at the scene,” she said.

The dead man was identified as 52-year-old Rick Tanovan of West Covina. An autopsy will be conducted to determine a cause of death.

Investigators have determined that a second man went fishing that day with Tanovan and is now missing, a sheriff’s deputy said. The missing man’s name was not released.
