LOS ANGELES (AP) – California workplace safety regulators have proposed a fine of more than $77,000 against a baggage handling company whose worker died in an accident at Los Angeles International Airport.

The state’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health said Wednesday that it cited Menzies Aviation for five violations related to the Feb. 21 accident, in which the driver of a luggage cart fell out and was crushed by the vehicle.

Regulators said their investigation found that the company discouraged employees from wearing seat belts, and that part of the belt in the cart involved in the accident was missing.

A representative of Menzies did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The company can appeal the fines.
