The former COO/Exec VP of the Chargers Jim Steeg is now on the SD Mayors Stadium Advisory Committee. Steeg discussed the reasons why the plan in San Diego is to build on the current stadium’s site in Mission Valley.

There are a number of reasons. It’s probably more secure as far as the cost factors and probably able to be done more quickly. There’s no doubt that there’s competition in LA to get something done. They’re talking up there today about what they’re doing in Carson. They’re moving fast and the point is this has got to move fast too. The financial side of this had an impact. When you go into a site where you already own the land makes it a lot easier than going into a site where you have to buy the land. The Chargers told us up front in a meeting a month ago that they were agnostic.
