Hubble Space Telescope

This handout composite image provided by NASA shows the visible and near infrared light spectrum collected from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope over a nine-year period. The Hubble Space Telescope has captured our cosmos at its most colorful. A new NASA panorama looking deep and far into the universe for the first time includes ultraviolet light, which is normally not visible to the human eye. It shows up in the photo as bright baby blue with spinning galaxies, which are about 5 to 10 billion years old, not too old or young in cosmic terms. The photo was taken over 841 orbits of the telescope and shows about 10,000 multi-colored galaxies. (AP Photo/NASA)

This undated image made available by the European Space Agency and NASA on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014 shows galaxies in the Abell 2744 cluster, and blue galaxies behind it, distorted and amplified by gravitational lensing. The long-exposure image taken with NASA's Hubble Space Telescope shows some of the intrinsically faintest and youngest galaxies ever detected in visible light. (AP Photo/ESA/NASA)

Galaxies from 13.2 billion years ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Hubble Space Telescope has captured snapshots of never-before seen galaxies far, far away. Try 13.2 billion years ago. That’s so long ago and far away that Hubble was never supposed to […]

Study: Dead stars colliding forged gold on Earth

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A strange glow in space has provided fresh evidence that all the gold on Earth was forged from ancient collisions of dead stars, researchers reported Wednesday. Astronomers have long known that […]
