KFWB sports anchor and reporter since 1994, Ted Sobel is a 3-time Golden Mic Award winner for best sports reporting in Southern California radio.
The Los Angeles native has covered many of world’s top events including many Super Bowls, World Series, NBA and NHL Stanley Cup Finals, BCS Championship and Rose Bowl games, golf’s majors including U.S. Opens, the PGA Championhip and British Open, tennis grand slam events at the U.S. Open and Wimbledon, soccer’s World Cup, and the Breeder’s Cup.
Prior to joining KFWB, Sobel did updates and hosted talk shows at the original KMPC during their 3-year all-sports era while also serving as a producer on the Los Angeles Rams and UCLA football broadcasts and spent 3 years as a sports anchor at KNX radio.
Another of Ted’s passions is play by play where locally he was the voice of Long Beach State basketball and football, UC Irvine basketball, and 5 seasons of Long Beach Ice Dogs hockey in the now defunct International Hockey League. He also called University of Wisconsin hockey (which included a pair of games against the eventual ‘Miracle on Ice’ USA team in 1980) and spent one year in New England calling New Hampshire/Cape Cod Freedoms games for the old North Eastern Hockey League.
Besides his duties of covering events for KFWB/KNX, Ted is currently in his 5th season as a studio host and sideline reporter for the Sports USA Radio Network’s NFL and NCAA football broadcasts along with over a decade as the on-court voice of the Farmer’s Classic ATP tennis event at UCLA and is the 18th green announcer at the LPGA’s first golf major of the year, the Kraft Nabisco Championship in Rancho Mirage.
Sobel is a graduate of Fairfax High School in L.A and of the Radio/TV department at Los Angeles City College.
